Kitchen Cabinet Prices and How to Determine Your Budget. Regardless of whether you’re remodeling your kitchen or building a brand-new one, kitchen cabinets can eat up a major part of your budget. They are obviously also a very long-term investment, and hence you would want to educate yourself about the prices and how to go about determining your budget.

Average Kitchen Value

First things first, to find out how much you should be spending on kitchen cabinets. You would first need to figure out your overall budget for the kitchen remodeling or designing. And to do that, you would want to know the average kitchen value in your neighborhood.

The reason it’s so important is that an updated kitchen is considered to be the most important aspect of any house on sale. That being said, you would want to make sure that you’re not spending too much or too less on the kitchen. So that it doesn’t end up overpricing or underpricing your house when it goes on sale.

Choosing the Type of Cabinets

Once you’re done figuring out the right budget based on the average kitchen value in your neighborhood, you may want to choose the type of kitchen cabinets you want to go for. Usually, you may have to spend well over half of your budget on kitchen cabinets. Kitchen cabinet prices may vary quite a bit depending on the type you choose.

Coming to the types of kitchen cabinets, the first and the cheapest choice is to go for stock cabinets. They are premade ready-to-sell cabinets that you can usually get installed in your kitchen on the same day or in just a few days. They usually cost just around $60 to $200 per linear feet. However, needless to mention, don’t expect anything in terms of customizations with them.

The second type is the semi-custom cabinets. As the name suggests, they allow customization to a certain extent, and would usually take longer to reach your house. They would usually set you back $100 to $650 per linear feet.

Finally, the custom cabinets are the most expensive type, priced in the range of $500 to $1200 per linear feet. They can obviously be customized the way you want, and come with the exact specifications you want. They take the longest to build.
